Step no. 1 - Give your audience what they want
Let's be honest, as business owners and entrepreneurs, we are (or should be) in love with the products and services we have to offer. What's generally a great attitude is the completely wrong approach when it comes to lead generation...

By now, you probably already know that in order to convince a prospect to join your list, you have to offer him something in exchange for his email address. So, in no time, you whip up a free eBook, a checklist or an awesome video training.

You invest time, effort, and sometimes even money to create these lead magnets. And I'm sure you've been in that situation before: you launch your awesome free lead magnet... and nobody downloads it. Nobody opts in. Crickets...

Step no. 2 - Know Your Dream Customer Avatar
Even before you start implementing this 5-Step blueprint you should have your ideal customer avatar nailed down

Once you understand who you want to serve, you will know their demographics, their interests, and their behavioral patterns.

Using this knowledge, and the Facebook Audience Insights, you can build powerful interest-based audiences with potential new customers.

If you already have an existing audience, like an email list or a Facebook Group, you should leverage these as well.
Extract your most engaged leads (high open and click rates) and customers from your email lists, and build so-called (Value-based) Lookalike Audiences inside of Facebook's Asset Manager.
Step no. 3 - Begin with the end in mind
There are lots of strategies and approaches out there when it comes to Facebook Ads or Display advertising in general. And most of them preach to start with "low-cost" objective campaigns like Engagement or Videos Views campaigns.

While this approach can work, it will take longer and will cost you a lot more money than flipping the process upside down...

To generate leads fast, you want to focus on the big end result you want to achieve: getting people on your email list or get these people to buy from you.
The advertising framework we use for the majority of our agency clients. You start with a highly optimized campaign objective to weed out the non-converters right from the beginning.
That's why we start most of our campaigns with objectives that are more expensive but are also much more optimized by Facebook. Objectives could be Conversions for Leads or Purchases, and we only target cold (new) and lukewarm audiences with these campaigns.

Of course, not everyone, no matter how optimized they are, will convert right at the first time. 
That's why we follow-up with these warm and hot audiences - or re-target them - with "low-cost", less optimized campaign objectives, like Reach or Engagement.

What's the point, you might ask?

Lots of business owners and even marketers don't know that Facebook optimizes your ads for the objective you chose. 

Meaning: if you select Conversions (Leads), Facebook will deliver your ads mostly to audience members who are most likely to become a lead.

As you are re-targeting these optimized audiences members with your later campaigns, you don't need to further optimize. 

You want to reach as many people as possible, and not let Facebook keep filtering your audience.
Step no. 4 - Let the system work for you
The point of this blueprint is to take yourself out of the equation, and leave you not worrying about finding new audiences or testing copy and creatives all the time...

The key to creating this automated lead generation process is to leverage your newly generated leads and use them to create brand new, dynamic and highly relevant audiences in form of Lookalike Audiences...
Simply collect the user data with the Facebook Pixel and it's Standard Events and gather all of them inside of a Facebook Custom Audience. Based on this Custom Audience you can create a Lookalike Audience which will be added to your initial Conversion campaigns.

By setting up your targeting this way, your audience will update and optimize with every new lead you generate.

Every time a user converts and lands on your email list, his data will influence the optimization of the Lookalike Audience and help to make it even more relevant to your lead magnet and your business.
This lead generation campaign is live since August 2018. After implementing the 5-Step-Blueprint and leveraging existing leads to build new audiences, results for the prospecting campaign (red) skyrocketed. With an ad spend of around $5,600 USD we generated more than 7,500 leads at $.73 USD a piece.
Step no. 5 - Indoctrinate & Ascend
Having leads on your email list doesn't necessarily mean that you can monetize them and make money off of them...

Because a Facebook ad or even a lead magnet most of the times don't build enough trust for someone to take out their wallet and purchase your offer, you have to build and gain their trust with a powerful on-boarding, follow-up or indoctrination email sequence.

Every day, over the course of one or two weeks, you'll send them an email that introduces them step-by-step to your world, your business and most importantly to you as a person.

Towards the end of this sequence, you will then "soft pitch" them on your next step on the value ladder and/or your entry-level product or service.
After signing up for the lead magnet, the new lead enters an email indoctrination sequence over a certain number of days, depending on the lead magnet (on average 7 days). In this time period the lead gets introduced to the business, provided with valuable content, and eventually offered the entry-level product (in this case a paid eBook).
Step no. 6 - Get Support!
For us in our agency, things significantly changed once we realized how a mentor, coach, or another expert in his field can positively impact our business.
